One-time data event · CA supervised

Tally to Zoho Books migration services in India.

Moving from Tally to Zoho Books is more than a software switch. It is a one-time data event that decides whether your books open clean on Day 1 or carry forward years of mismatched ledgers, broken GSTINs, and stuck opening balances. Regikart's CA-led migration team handles the full transition so your Zoho Books organisation starts production-ready, not half-done.

Who this is for

Built for businesses that have outgrown Tally's desktop constraints.

This service is for teams that need cloud accounting without losing their historical data. Typical clients include:

Growing MSMEs that need multi-user, multi-location access to live books
Service firms, consultancies, and agencies switching to subscription accounting
Startups raising funding who need investor-ready cloud books with audit trail
D2C and ecommerce sellers needing native integration with Shopify, Razorpay, Amazon
CA firms transitioning client books from on-premise Tally to a cloud stack
Businesses moving from TallyPrime, Tally ERP 9, or Tally Server to Zoho Books
Why migrate

Why businesses migrate from Tally to Zoho Books.

Tally remains a strong desktop product for inventory-heavy traders and CA practices that prioritise keyboard-driven entry. But for service businesses, distributed teams, and any company that needs live books on a mobile screen, Zoho Books closes gaps Tally was never designed to fill.

Cloud-first access

Browser and mobile access from anywhere - no remote desktop, no VPN, no file copies between machines.

Native GSTN integration

GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B direct filing via API from inside Zoho Books - not export and re-upload.

Automated bank feeds

Live feeds for most Indian banks - vs Tally's manual statement uploads and reconciliation gymnastics.

Built-in customer portal

Self-serve invoice payments, statements, and approvals - your customers stop emailing you for copies.

Recurring invoices and reminders

Subscription invoicing, payment reminders, and approval workflows out of the box.

Native Zoho integrations

Zoho CRM, Inventory, Payroll, Projects, Analytics - one identity, one data layer, zero re-keying.

Direct ecommerce connectors

Razorpay, Stripe, Shopify, Amazon, Flipkart, Unicommerce - native sync, not third-party scripts.

Subscription pricing

Per-organisation cloud subscription instead of per-machine licence renewals.

When Tally is still the right choice

  • Businesses that depend on TDS Form 26Q/27Q automation - Tally's TDS workflow is deeper.
  • Heavy inventory operations with multi-godown stock transfers, batch tracking, or manufacturing BOMs.
  • Operations that require offline reliability and cannot tolerate any cloud or connectivity dependency.
  • If your business depends on those workflows, we will tell you Zoho is the wrong move - honestly.

The migration only makes sense when Zoho's cloud, automation, and integration advantages outweigh what you give up.

What gets migrated

Seven data sets, imported in a fixed sequence.

A complete Tally to Zoho Books migration covers seven data sets, imported in a sequence that prevents cascading errors. Skip the order and you spend the next month chasing imbalances.

1. Chart of Accounts

  • Tally's Account Masters map to Zoho's Chart of Accounts.
  • Each ledger mapped to the correct Zoho account type (Asset, Liability, Equity, Income, Expense).
  • Sub-categorisation like Current Asset or Cost of Goods Sold applied.
  • This is the foundation - every later import depends on it.

2. Contacts (Customers and Vendors)

  • Sundry Debtors become Customers; Sundry Creditors become Vendors.
  • Mandatory fields: name, GSTIN (validated), state, place of supply, payment terms.
  • Billing and shipping addresses imported per contact.
  • Opening balances for each contact imported separately after the contact records exist.

3. Items and Inventory

  • Stock Items in Tally become Items in Zoho.
  • HSN/SAC codes, GST rates, units, reorder levels, and opening stock transfer.
  • For inventory-tracked businesses we reconcile Tally Stock Summary against Zoho Inventory Valuation before sign-off.

4. Bank and Credit Card Accounts

  • Bank ledgers in Tally become Banking accounts in Zoho.
  • Where the bank supports automatic feeds, we configure the live connection.
  • Future transactions flow in automatically - no monthly statement upload.

5. Opening Balances

  • Pulled from your Tally Trial Balance as of the migration date.
  • Imported in three layers: account-level, customer/vendor outstanding, item-level opening stock.
  • The Opening Balance Adjustments account must show zero - we reconcile this before handing the books over.

6. Open Transactions

  • Unpaid invoices, unpaid bills, undeposited cheques, and open purchase orders.
  • All carried forward as live documents.
  • Collections and payments continue uninterrupted from day one in Zoho.

7. Historical Transactions (optional)

  • Full historical data (sales, purchases, journals, receipts, payments) for past years.
  • Optional because most businesses only need opening balances.
  • Recommended only when audit-trail continuity is required for assessment, due diligence, or year-on-year analytics.
Our Tally to Zoho migration process

Eight steps with a reconciliation gate at every stage.

Migrations fail when teams skip the pre-flight work. Our process is built around the sequence Zoho's own documentation specifies, with a reconciliation gate before every handover.

Day 0

Discovery call

Free 30-minute call to understand your Tally setup (version, companies, data volume, integrations), your Zoho destination (plan, organisation count, multi-GSTIN needs), and your migration timing. Fixed-fee quote within one working day.

Day 1-2

Pre-migration audit

You share Tally backup or remote access. We extract Day Book, Trial Balance, Stock Summary, Master Data, P&L, and Balance Sheet. We flag missing GSTINs, unmatched bank recs, debit/credit imbalances, and stale debtors. Cleaned at source - dirty data into Zoho only relocates the problem.

Day 2-3

Zoho Books organisation setup

We create the Zoho Books organisation with the right plan (Standard, Professional, Premium, Elite, or Ultimate), configure fiscal year (April-March), base currency (INR), GST settings, place of business, and a chart-of-accounts template aligned to your industry.

Day 3-5

Master data import

Chart of Accounts, Contacts, and Items imported in that order. Each import validated against the Tally source. Any GSTIN validation failure or HSN format issue is fixed at source and re-imported.

Day 5-7

Opening balance import

Trial Balance opening balances imported from your migration date. Customer and vendor outstanding balances applied. Stock opening balances imported. Opening Balance Adjustments verified at zero - if it is not zero, we trace and fix the imbalance before proceeding.

Day 7-10

Open transactions and historical data

Open invoices, open bills, and unpaid receivables/payables imported as live documents. If your package includes historical transactions, sales, purchases, payments, receipts, and journals are imported in batches with row-level validation.

Day 10-12

Reconciliation and sign-off

Zoho Books Trial Balance compared line-by-line with Tally Trial Balance as of the cutover date. Customer and vendor ledger balances spot-checked. GST data validated against your GSTR-2B. Inventory valuation matched. We do not sign off until every figure ties.

Day 12-14

Training and handover

90-minute live training session covering invoicing, expense recording, bank reconciliation, GST return preparation, and report navigation. Written runbook handed over. The 30-day support window starts here.

Migration packages and pricing

Three structured packages, fixed-fee, no hourly creep.

Three packages cover the typical migration scope. Custom quotes apply for multi-entity migrations, multi-currency books, or businesses with more than 5,000 historical transactions per year.

Best for: Clean cutover; you keep Tally as the historical archive

Best for: Mid-year migrations that need current-FY continuity inside Zoho

Best for: Audit, due-diligence, or assessment cases needing full history in cloud

What is included in every package

  • Chart of Accounts mapping with Zoho-recommended categorisation
  • GST configuration including GSTIN, place of supply, tax rates, HSN/SAC
  • Import of contacts, items, banking, opening balances

Timing the cutover

When should you migrate?

The cleanest cutover is 1 April - the start of a new financial year. Opening balances flow from your closed Tally year, no part-year reconciliation, no GST return split mid-cycle.

Quarter-end (30 June, 30 September, 31 December) is the next-best alternative if 1 April is not workable.

Mid-year migration - what to know

Mid-year migration is possible and we run them regularly. The trade-offs to know:

  • GST returns: The cutover month splits between Tally and Zoho. We handle the reconciliation but it adds 1-2 days.
  • Year-to-date reports: You will need to run combined reports for the first year (Tally for pre-cutover, Zoho for post-cutover).
  • TDS: Any TDS deducted in Tally before cutover stays on Tally's books; only future TDS routes through Zoho.
  • Bank reconciliation: Must be 100% complete in Tally as of the cutover date. No exceptions.
Why Regikart for your migration

CA-led, fixed-fee, reconciled to zero before sign-off.

CA-led delivery

Every migration is supervised by a Chartered Accountant, not a data-entry team.

Fixed fees

Not hourly billing - you know the cost before we start.

100% TB accuracy

Trial Balance reconciliation against your Tally closing figures before sign-off. No exceptions.

Multi-office presence

Kolkata (HQ), Delhi, Gurugram, Pune - remote delivery pan-India.

Full-service firm

GST, income tax, ROC, payroll, and audit handled under one roof if you need ongoing compliance.

Transparent scoping

We tell you when Zoho is the wrong choice instead of selling you a migration anyway.

Post-migration support

30-day query window plus optional ongoing Zoho Books bookkeeping retainer.

GST and e-invoicing

GST-critical setup is explicit in the scope.

From April 2025, the e-invoicing threshold dropped to INR 5 crore aggregate turnover, pulling many mid-size businesses into mandatory IRN generation. For 2026, e-invoicing readiness is no longer optional for most migrating businesses. Our migration covers the GST-critical setup explicitly:

GSTIN validation on every customer and vendor record
HSN/SAC code mapping at 6-digit level for businesses above INR 5 crore turnover
Place of supply configuration per state for inter-state vs intra-state classification
Tax rate setup including reverse charge applicability
Composition scheme configuration where applicable
E-invoicing module activation and integration with NIC IRP for businesses above threshold
E-way bill API setup where required
Multi-GSTIN handling for businesses with operations in multiple states

For the official reference, see the Zoho Books Help Centre - Tally to Zoho Books migration guide.

Onboarding checklist

What you need to share with us

We send a structured request in writing once you sign - this is just a heads-up.

Tally source

  • Tally backup file (.tcp/.tsf) or remote access to your Tally workstation.
  • Day Book, Trial Balance, P&L, and Balance Sheet as of the cutover date (Excel/CSV).
  • Master data export: ledgers, stock items, GSTINs.

Reconciliation inputs

  • Bank statements for the cutover month for reconciliation verification.
  • Last 3 months of GST returns (GSTR-1, GSTR-3B) for tax data validation.

Destination and timing

  • Admin access to your Zoho Books organisation (we set it up if you do not have one).
  • Migration date confirmation and preferred go-live week.

Keep Tally as your read-only archive

Keep Tally read-only for at least one full assessment year for audit trail and reference. You will need it for any prior-year notice, scrutiny assessment, or due diligence. After that, an archived backup is sufficient. We hand over your Zoho Books organisation cleanly (you own it; we are users) with a closing handover note.

Legal framework

The statutes that govern the migrated books.

CGST Act, 2017

GSTR-1 by the 11th, GSTR-3B by the 20th, e-invoicing above INR 5 crore aggregate turnover. Place-of-supply rules and reverse-charge applicability set at migration.

Income Tax Act, 1961

TDS sections continue from Tally for pre-cutover periods; Zoho carries TDS forward post-cutover. Tax audit u/s 44AB unaffected by the migration event.

Companies Act, 2013

Schedule III formats preserved through chart-of-accounts mapping. AOC-4, MGT-7A, DIR-3 KYC obligations carry over for Pvt Ltd and OPC entities.

Indian Accounting Standards

Opening balances reconciled to your last audited financials. Depreciation, related-party, and accrual treatments aligned to Ind AS where applicable.
