The licence is issued by FSSAI under Section 31 of the FSS Act 2006, through the FoSCoS portal (foscos.fssai.gov.in). Applications use Form A for Basic registration and Form B for State or Central licences.

Real outcomes for restaurants, kitchens and exporters
Regikart figured out we needed a State licence not Basic and got us live on Swiggy in three weeks. The layout plan support was a lifesaver.
They flagged that exports always need Central regardless of turnover. Documentation was tight and the licence came through without queries.
Smooth Basic registration in a week. Clear answer on which tier I needed and zero back-and-forth on the FoSCoS portal.

Legal authority to trade
The FSSAI licence gives you legal authority to make, store, sell or serve food in India under the FSS Act 2006.

Swiggy, Zomato, Amazon and other platforms ask for a valid FSSAI number before they onboard a food seller.
Customer trust
A visible 14-digit FSSAI number on packaging and premises builds customer confidence in your food safety.

How we keep your FSSAI case clean
Wrong tier
Applying for the wrong tier causes rejection or later upgrade. We assess turnover and activity first.
Activity-based central trigger
Importers, exporters and nationwide e-commerce always need Central, whatever the turnover. We catch this early.
Incomplete documents
A missing layout or food safety plan stalls a licence. We prepare the full set before filing.
Missed annual return
Skipping Form D1 risks suspension for manufacturers and importers. We track and file it on time.
Ignoring the 2026 update
The April 2026 amendment changed thresholds and validity. We file against the live position on FoSCoS.
Hand-off the paperwork, focus on the food
| Aspect | Doing it yourself | With Regikart |

FSSAI: the rules behind the licence
FSSAI is established under the Food Safety and Standards Act 2006, and the licence is issued under Section 31 through the FoSCoS portal. The framework was updated by the Order dated 13 March 2026, effective 1 April 2026.
- FSS Act 2006 / Section 31
FSSAI is established under the FSS Act 2006 and regulates food safety in India. Every licence and registration is granted under Section 31 through the FoSCoS portal.
- Three tiers and forms
Basic registration uses Form A; State and Central licences use Form B. A Central licence is mandatory for importers, exporters, 100 percent export units and nationwide e-commerce, regardless of turnover.
- 2026 amendment
An Order dated 13 March 2026 (effective 1 April 2026) is reported to raise the turnover thresholds and give perpetual validity to credentials issued from that date. Confirm on FoSCoS.
- Returns and penalties
Manufacturers and importers file the annual return Form D1. Operating without the required licence is an offence under the Act with heavy fines and, in serious cases, imprisonment.
