Add GST to a price or take it out of an inclusive price, at the current rates. See the CGST and SGST split for a sale within your state, or IGST for a sale to another state, and the invoice total.
Rates as rationalised by the GST Council from 22 September 2025 · Reviewed by Regikart's CA team · 25 October 2026
| Net amount (taxable value) | ₹10,000.00 |
| CGST @ 9% | ₹900.00 |
| SGST / UTGST @ 9% | ₹900.00 |
| Total GST | ₹1,800.00 |
| Invoice total | ₹11,800.00 |
A supply within the state carries CGST and SGST (UTGST in a Union territory without a legislature), split equally. A supply to another state, an export or a supply to an SEZ is treated as inter-state and carries IGST. The rate depends on the HSN or SAC of the item; compensation cess, where it still applies, is extra.

| Task | Formula |
|---|---|
| Add GST | GST = amount × rate ÷ 100; total = amount + GST |
| Remove GST | Net = inclusive amount ÷ (1 + rate ÷ 100); GST = inclusive amount − net |
| Within the state | CGST = SGST = GST ÷ 2 |
| To another state | IGST = full GST |
Invoices before 22 September 2025 may carry the old 12% or 28% rates; enter them as a custom rate.
Registered businesses report these figures in GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B. If you are not yet registered, see GST registration; for monthly or quarterly returns, see GST return filing.
Questions
How do I add GST to a price?
Multiply the price by the rate. At 18%, ₹10,000 plus GST is ₹10,000 + ₹1,800 = ₹11,800. Within a state the ₹1,800 is split into ₹900 CGST and ₹900 SGST; to another state it is ₹1,800 IGST.
How do I remove GST from an inclusive price?
Divide the inclusive price by 1 plus the rate. At 18%, ₹11,800 ÷ 1.18 = ₹10,000, so the GST is ₹1,800. Taking 18% off ₹11,800 gives the wrong answer.
What are the GST rates now?
Since 22 September 2025 most goods and services fall in two main slabs, 5% and 18%, with 40% for a short list of luxury and sin goods. Special rates remain for a few items, such as 3% on gold and 0.25% on rough diamonds, and many essentials are exempt. The rate for your item depends on its HSN or SAC code.
When is it CGST and SGST, and when IGST?
When the supplier and the place of supply are in the same state, the tax is CGST plus SGST (or UTGST), half each. When they are in different states, or the supply is an export or to an SEZ, it is IGST.
Do I need GST registration?
Generally once aggregate turnover crosses ₹40 lakh for goods or ₹20 lakh for services, with lower limits in some states, and from the first sale for inter-state supplies of goods. Since 1 October 2023, a seller of goods through an e-commerce platform within one state can stay unregistered below the threshold, subject to conditions. There is no government fee for registration.
