Most businesses need a GST registration before, or alongside, the licences below. GST registration is compulsory once your turnover crosses the threshold for your state and type of supply, and for inter-state sellers of goods and most e-commerce sellers. There is no government fee for it.

Which registrations does your business need?
The right set depends on what you do, where you operate and how many people you employ. This table is a starting point; we confirm it for your state before you apply.
| If your business... | You usually need | Where it is issued |
|---|---|---|
| Is any registered business within the MSME limits | Udyam registration (free) | udyamregistration.gov.in |
| Has a shop, office or commercial premises | Shop and establishment registration; a trade licence where the municipality requires one | State labour department; municipal body |
| Imports or exports goods | IEC; AD code with your bank; GST registration | DGFT; your bank and customs; GST portal |
| Exports agricultural or processed food products | APEDA registration (RCMC) | APEDA |
| Makes, stores, sells or delivers food | FSSAI registration or licence (perpetual validity from 1 April 2026): a State licence or a Central licence by turnover and kind of business | FSSAI (FoSCoS) |
| Sells to government buyers | GeM seller registration | Government e-Marketplace |
| Employs staff | ESIC from 10 employees; EPF from 20 employees; professional tax in states that levy it | ESIC; EPFO; state tax department |
| Signs on government portals | Class 3 digital signature certificate | Licensed Certifying Authority |
| Is a startup company, LLP or registered firm | Startup India (DPIIT) recognition (free) | DPIIT, through the National Single Window System |
| Is an NGO, trust or section 8 company | Registration and approval under the Income-tax Act, 2025 (old 12A and 80G) | Income-tax portal |
Delhi does not levy professional tax, while West Bengal, Karnataka and Maharashtra do. Licences for specific trades are issued by state authorities: a chemist or distributor, for example, needs a drug licence from the state drugs control department.
What our fees include
Every card shows Regikart's starting professional fee. Government fees are separate and are paid at actuals: for example ₹500 for an IEC, and nothing for Udyam, GST registration or DPIIT recognition.
Professional fees exclude GST at 18%. Government fees, where they apply, are paid at actuals to the department and are shown separately. Fees verified on 21 September 2026.
Where a card says "Fee on quote", the fee depends on your state or scope and we confirm it in writing before we start.

Registration and licence questions
A CA reviews your activity, state and headcount and tells you which registrations apply before you pay.
Still have questions?
Call or WhatsApp +91 70444 94804 and a CA will map the registrations for your state.
Talk to a CA →Which licences and registrations does a new business need in India?
It depends on your activity, state and headcount. Most businesses need GST registration once over the threshold, Udyam registration, and a shop and establishment registration for their premises. Exporters add an IEC, food businesses add FSSAI, and employers add ESIC from 10 employees and EPF from 20. A CA can map the full list for your state.
Is Udyam registration free?
Yes. Udyam registration has no government fee and is done only on the official portal, udyamregistration.gov.in. Private websites that charge for it are not the government. Regikart files it for a ₹499 professional fee if you want help, but you can always register yourself with your Aadhaar and PAN.
Does an FSSAI licence still need renewal?
No. From 1 April 2026, FSSAI registrations and licences have perpetual validity, so the old one-to-five-year renewal cycle has ended. You still keep paying the annual fee, file the Form D-1 annual return where it applies, and update the licence when business details change.
Is GST registration needed along with these licences?
Often, yes. GST registration is separate from every licence on this page and is compulsory once turnover crosses the threshold for your state and type of supply, and for inter-state sellers of goods. Exporters of goods usually need GST registration together with an IEC. GST registration carries no government fee.
Are government fees included in your fees?
No. Each card shows Regikart's professional fee, which excludes GST at 18%. Government fees are paid at actuals to the department and shown separately, for example ₹500 to DGFT for an IEC. Several registrations, such as Udyam, GST registration and DPIIT recognition, have no government fee at all.
Mujhe apne business ke liye kaun kaun se licence chahiye?
Start with three questions: what you sell, where your premises are, and how many people you employ. Premises usually need a shop and establishment registration, food needs FSSAI, imports and exports need an IEC, and staff bring ESIC, EPF and professional tax. Share these details with us and a CA lists what applies in your state.
Can you file several registrations together?
Yes. Many businesses file GST registration, Udyam and a shop and establishment registration together, or IEC with GST and an LUT if they export. Each registration keeps its own fee and government process, and we sequence them so that names, addresses and PAN details match across all of them.
Do you handle renewals and annual filings?
Yes, for the registrations that have them. Examples are the IEC annual update between April and June, the FSSAI Form D-1 annual return, digital signature renewal before expiry and the five-yearly renewal of NGO registrations. Udyam and GST registration never need renewal, and FSSAI licences no longer do; they need updates only when details change.
