Udyam Registration in Delhi: MSME Certificate Without the Guesswork
Delhi runs on garments, printing and packaging, electrical goods and wholesale trade. Delhi's registered base is unusually trade-heavy. Chandni Chowk, Karol Bagh and Sadar Bazar generate thousands of wholesale and retail Udyam registrations, and traders need to understand precisely which benefits that certificate does and does not give them.
Udyam registration is free. Everywhere.
The Ministry of MSME states that Udyam registration is zero cost and that udyamregistration.gov.in is the only official portal. Registration, updates, corrections and cancellation are all free. Any amount charged by an intermediary - including ours - is a professional fee for advisory and filing work, not a government levy. A large share of page-one search results are private sites charging what they present as a government fee for a free process.
What Udyam registration means for a Delhi business
Udyam registration is the Government of India's online MSME registration under the MSMED Act, 2006, issuing a permanent Udyam Registration Number and an e-certificate to a micro, small or medium enterprise.
It is filed centrally on https://udyamregistration.gov.in and validated against Aadhaar, PAN and GSTN data. Investment is drawn from income tax records and turnover from GST records, which means the figures you declare must reconcile with what you have already filed.
For Delhi specifically, the certificate does three things. It makes the enterprise visible to buyers in Okhla Industrial Area, Naraina, Mayapuri, Wazirpur, Bawana, Narela and the Chandni Chowk and Karol Bagh trading markets, who increasingly require a Udyam Registration Number before onboarding a vendor. It opens the Delhi state incentive and subsidy layer administered through the District Industries Centre of the concerned Delhi district and Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (DSIIDC). And it gives a micro or small enterprise standing before the Delhi Micro and Small Enterprises Facilitation Council, under the Industries Department, Government of NCT of Delhi when a buyer pays late.
The composite classification test
| Category | Investment | Turnover |
|---|---|---|
| Micro | up to ₹2.5 crore | up to ₹10 crore |
| Small | up to ₹25 crore | up to ₹100 crore |
| Medium | up to ₹125 crore | up to ₹500 crore |
Ceilings revised with effect from 1 April 2025. The test is composite: an enterprise falls in a category only if both its investment and its turnover are within that category’s ceilings, and breaching either one moves it up. Export turnover is excluded from the turnover computation, and land and building are excluded from investment.
Who needs Udyam registration in Delhi
What Regikart handles
Delayed payments and the Delhi Facilitation Council
A registered micro or small enterprise can make a reference under Section 18 of the MSMED Act to the Delhi Micro and Small Enterprises Facilitation Council, constituted by the state, which conciliates and then arbitrates the dispute. Registration is what gives you access to that route - an unregistered enterprise has to sue in the ordinary way.
Documents required
The registration is Aadhaar-based and paperless - there are no document uploads. The portal validates against Aadhaar, PAN and GSTN data directly, which means the investment and turnover figures you declare must reconcile with what you have already filed.

Get the classification right the first time
The filing itself is quick. What costs businesses is a category computed wrongly, units registered as duplicate URNs instead of branches, or a registration that was never updated after the turnover moved. We compute the composite test from your filed ITR and GST returns before anything is submitted.
