FSSAI Registration in Ahmedabad
Basic registration and State or Central licences for Ahmedabad food businesses, filed on FoSCoS remotely
A farsan shop in Maninagar, a food stall at Manek Chowk, a thali restaurant on SG Highway and a snacks factory in Changodar all need an FSSAI registration or licence for each premises. From 1 April 2026, a Basic registration covers turnover up to ₹1.5 crore and a State licence up to ₹50 crore, and you apply online on FoSCoS.
We do not have an office in Ahmedabad and serve the city remotely from Kolkata, Delhi and Bengaluru. The national FSSAI guide explains the rules. This page covers Ahmedabad: Gujarat's food safety set-up and the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation's role in inspections, the trade licence, and the manufacturing and export cases common in the city.

Which food businesses in Ahmedabad need FSSAI
The food safety set-up in Gujarat
Gujarat runs FSSAI licensing through the Food and Drugs Control Administration (FDCA), Gandhinagar, whose head serves as the state's Commissioner of Food Safety. Registrations and State licences are granted by the state's registering and licensing authorities after you file on FoSCoS.
Within city limits, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation also has its own food safety work. Food safety officials of the AMC's health department collect samples and carry out inspections under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, and can stop the sale of food that fails. So an Ahmedabad restaurant or farsan shop may see an AMC officer at its door as well as a state officer. Keep the FSSAI certificate displayed, the number on your labels and your purchase records in order, because that is what an inspection checks first.
Inspection drives in Ahmedabad often focus on ghee, sweets and farsan before festivals, on oil quality at fried-snack outlets, and on dairy products. Where a sample fails, sale can be stopped while the result is taken forward, which for a farsan maker can mean a whole batch held back. The best protection is a credential that matches the premises and every product category you actually make, supplier invoices for raw material, and labels that carry the right number.
A premises in Changodar, Sanand or Aslali is outside AMC limits and is dealt with by the state set-up for the district. We confirm the authority for each address before filing.
A Central licence is issued by FSSAI itself. FSSAI lists an Ahmedabad Branch Office at Telephone Bhavan, CG Road, Navrangpura, covering Gujarat under its Western Region.
The trade licence alongside FSSAI
FSSAI does not replace the trade licence. A food business within the city also needs the licence the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation issues for trades and establishments, and a unit outside city limits takes it from that local body or industrial estate authority. We describe it in general terms and do not quote its fee. Our trade licence page covers the process.
Common Ahmedabad cases
- One shop, or a chain. Each outlet takes its own registration or licence by its own turnover. A farsan chain that opens in Mumbai or Rajasthan needs a Central licence for its head office.
- A cloud kitchen with several kitchens. One credential per kitchen.
- A home chef or home baker. A Basic registration with your home as the premises usually covers you within ₹1.5 crore.
- A marketplace seller vs your own website. Listing on Amazon or a delivery app does not by itself need a Central licence; your own premises are licensed by turnover. Selling through your own website or app does.
- A manufacturer-exporter or importer. Both need a Central licence whatever the turnover.
- A wedding or event caterer. A caterer needs a credential for its base kitchen by turnover. Cooking at a party plot or venue does not make that venue your premises, but a permanent kitchen at a banquet hall is one, and the hall's own food business needs its credential.
- A street food vendor. If you are registered with the AMC or a town vending committee under the Street Vendors Act, 2014, you are deemed registered under FSSAI for that activity.
A worked example
An Ahmedabad snacks business makes farsan at a factory in Changodar with turnover of ₹6 crore, exports part of it, runs a shop in Maninagar at about ₹1 crore and a Manek Chowk stall registered as a street vendor. This is illustrative; your figures decide your category.
| Premises or activity | Turnover | Credential |
|---|---|---|
| Factory, Changodar, exporting as manufacturer | Any | Central licence |
| Shop, Maninagar | about ₹1 crore | Basic registration |
| Stall, Manek Chowk | Registered street vendor | Deemed registered |
| Marketplace listings | Not a premises | Platform's licence; the seller's number is displayed |
The rules, at a glance
| Basic registration | Turnover up to ₹1.5 crore; Form A; issued by the registering authority (state or local food safety office) |
|---|---|
| State licence | Turnover above ₹1.5 crore and up to ₹50 crore; Form B; issued by the State licensing authority |
| Central licence | Turnover above ₹50 crore, and whatever the turnover for importers, e-commerce food platforms (and brands selling through their own website or app), 100% EOUs and other listed activities |
| Validity | Perpetual for registrations and licences issued under the rules in force from 1 April 2026; no renewal cycle |
| Where you apply | Online on FoSCoS (foscos.fssai.gov.in); one credential per premises |
| Government fee | As prescribed by FSSAI for the category, paid on FoSCoS |
The bands and forms are the same in every state. What differs by city is the food safety office that handles your application, the inspections it runs and the municipal trade licence that sits alongside FSSAI.
Documents to keep ready
FSSAI Registration fee in Ahmedabad
| Item | Amount |
|---|---|
| Regikart professional fee, FSSAI registration or licence application | From ₹1,999 |
| Government fee | As prescribed by FSSAI for your category, paid on FoSCoS |
| Modification, additional premises or annual return support | Quoted on scope |
Professional fees exclude GST at 18%. The government fee is paid directly on FoSCoS, and we confirm the amount for your category before filing. Fees checked on 25 October 2026.
The starting fee covers one application for one premises. An Ahmedabad business with a factory outside city limits, shops inside them and export sales usually needs a Central licence alongside Basic registrations. Send us the list of premises and activities with turnover and we will set out the category for each and quote the whole set before any work starts.
Working with us from Ahmedabad
We do not have an office in Ahmedabad. We serve Ahmedabad food businesses remotely from our head office in Kolkata and our branches in Delhi and Bengaluru. You upload documents by e-mail or WhatsApp, we review them and prepare the application, and anything that needs a signature comes back to you as a PDF to sign and return by e-mail. Calls and clarifications run on the phone or video. We do not visit premises; where the food safety authority orders an inspection, you or your manager meet the officer, and we prepare you for it.
The usual sequence
- Category check. We look at what you do at each premises, the turnover of each, and any activity that needs a Central licence whatever the turnover, and tell you in writing whether each premises takes a Basic registration, a State licence or a Central licence.
- Documents. We send a list for each premises and check every document before upload, including the layout plan and food safety plan for a licence.
- Filing on FoSCoS. We file Form A or Form B, map your food categories, and you pay the government fee on the portal.
- Inspection, where ordered. The authority may inspect before granting a licence or a registration. We reply to any query raised on the application.
- Issue. The certificate is issued on FoSCoS with a 14-digit number.
What to keep up to date
- Modification when something on the certificate changes: a new product category, a change of address, partners or directors, or a jump in turnover into the next band. See FSSAI modification.
- The annual fee, every year, and Form D-1 by 31 May if you are a licensed manufacturer or importer.
- Display the certificate at a prominent place in each premises.
- Print the number on the label of packaged food, and give it to every delivery app or marketplace you sell through.
